2731 Prospect Contemporary Art permanently closed on April 22, 2017
Paper is one of the oldest materials used for communication and creativity with each generation of artists continuing to reinvent new methods and strategies for the use of paper. This group exhibition focuses on the unique attributes of paper investigated within a variety of approaches that ranges from re-envisioning traditional techniques to experimental and hybrid processes.
“Works on Paper” includes stark yet elegantly printed aquatints that are paired with works that explore the abstract and vibrant use of color. Personal narratives are examined through intimate visual story telling while other works employ monochromatic painted paper forms that give a nod to minimalist sculpture. Some works deftly utilize paint that is applied to paper with a delicate touch, while other works feature screen printed imagery sourced from the culture of contemporary pop entertainment. These highly respected experts in the fields of papermaking and conservation will be seriously “talking paper.” This public event is designed to inform gallery visitors, collectors and artists about the creation and archival preservation of paper and artwork created on and with paper. Come prepared to take notes and ask advice from Cleveland’s top paper authorities.
Saturday February, 6 at 2:00 pm: Join us for a roundtable discussion with the artists presented in “Works on Paper.”
Join our “Works on Paper’ artists for an engaging group discussion about approaches to working with paper that ranges from traditional print processes to contemporary digital tools and experimental media involving paper.
The artists’ roundtable discussion will be followed by an exhibition closing party for the artists.
Gallery events are always free and open to the public.
2731 Prospect will take a brief winter break and be closed beginning on December 23, 2015 and returning to regular gallery hours on January 13, 2016. The gallery will be open by appointment only during our winter break. Happy Holidays!
