2731 Prospect Contemporary Art permanently closed on April 22, 2017
Until is Kristina Paabus’ first solo exhibition at 2731 Prospect. Kristina’s diverse works on paper involve drawing and a variety of print media processes. Her work investigates systems and strategies that we use to perceive, contain, control and negotiate our surroundings. Kristina’s multidisciplinary approach presents images, objects, environments, and situations that elaborate on logical organizational tactics and practiced superstitions. These hybrid spatial conversations examine the factual and fictional constructions that we employ to interact with the world around us. Through repetition, parameters, reality, and illusion we attempt to gain a sense of order – or at least fulfill our desire to believe.
Kristina’s work has been recently presented in the Cleveland area at SPACES; the University of Akron; Rooms to Let in Slavic Village; the Akron Art Museum; and the Baron Art Gallery in Oberlin. Her work has been featured in exhibitions across the U.S. including shows at Rockford University Art Gallery in IL; Bolivar Gallery at the University of Kentucky; Levitt Gallery at the University of Iowa; Ulrich Museum of Art in Wichita, KS; University of Tennesse in Knoxville, TN; The Safe Room in Dallas, TX; Fernway, Mission Projects and Back Room Projects in Chicago amongst many other venues.
Her work is in the collection of the Cleveland Clinic; Fogg Art Museum at Harvard; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; University of Iowa Museum of Art; and the Estonian Academy of Art amongst other collections. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and has received a number of international artist’s residencies. She has dual citizenship with Estonia where she periodically returns for studio projects. Kristina is currently Assistant Professor of Studio Art, Reproducible Media at Oberlin College.
Kristina received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA in Printmedia from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
