Perpetual Sunset features new work in painting and print media by Brandon Juhasz, Aaron Koehn and Erik Parra. This trio of artists are linked via their mutual interest in fabricated realities that seem to be subversively lurking in every corner of contemporary life. Their works collectively examine the odd visual and psychological slippages that occur within a swirl of glossy corporate branding, stock advertising imagery and manufactured interior spaces. By meshing combinations of images that are printed, painted and appropriated, these artists depict contemporary life as a rather troubling still life. A lushly colored still life that is overloaded with a veneer of utter banality while belying myriad complex meanings. Juhasz, Koehn and Parra use their deft artistic and technical skills to observe the darker moments of contemporary life with a mix of horror, irony and humor.
Brandon Juhasz received his BFA from Bowling Green State University where he trained in both painting and photography. His work has been included in recent exhibitions in Northeast Ohio at the Akron Art Museum, MOCA Cleveland, Maria Neil Gallery, SPACES and Forum Art Space. He was a recipient of a Creative Workforce Fellowship award in 2013. Juhasz is also actively involved in online photography exhibitions and is the founder of Foreign Exchange, an international photo competition. Jushasz lives in Cleveland.
Aaron Koehn received his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014. Originally focused on painting, Koehn’s attention has more recently shifted to sculpture and printing on a wide variety of unusual substrates. He has shown his work in multiple solo exhibitions at the William Busta Gallery in addition to MOCA Cleveland, the Cleveland Clinic and Forum Art Space. Originally from Cleveland, Koehn is currently based in New York.
Erik Parra received his BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Parra has had recent solo painting exhibitions in the San Francisco Bay Area at Southern Exposure, Transmission Gallery, TrueSilver Gallery, and Johansson Projects plus the Sheppard Gallery at the University of Nevada at Reno. His work has been included in group exhibitions in California at the Berkeley Art Center and the Torrance Art Museum. Parra currently divides his time between San Francisco and El Paso, TX.
