Familiars is a solo show of hand sewn and embroidered soft sculpture works by San Francisco artist, Lauren DiCioccio. Her work brings together the unlikely combination of wit and pathos coupled with the imaginative use of materials and impressive trompe l’oeil technical sewing skills. Using the construct of the Still Life, DiCioccio depicts common objects in the medium of hand-worked cloth as a means to explore parallels between objects and ourselves.
Lauren DiCioccio is originally from Philadelphia and currently lives in San Francisco. She graduated from Colgate University with a BFA in Art and Art History. Her work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Alfred University and in California at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Laguna Art Museum, and the De Saisset Museum. She has been a resident artist in San Francisco at both the Workshop Residency and Recology in addition to the McColl Center in Charlotte, NC. DiCioccio is currently an affiliate artist at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito.
