2731 Prospect Contemporary Art permanently closed on April 22, 2017
One of the strongest aspects of the local arts community is Cleveland’s vibrant photography scene. 2731 Prospect is delighted to contribute to the conversation by presenting Emerge: New Photography CLE featuring work by Jacob Koestler, Amelia Maslen and Dale Rothenberg. These three emerging, Cleveland-based artists are linked via their photographic investigations into our collective relationship to nature and the landscape.
Jacob Koestler’s photography, video and multimedia installations, presents loose stream of conscious narratives set in rural Appalachia, the Rust Belt and other post-industrial settings. Koestler is an artist and musician from Johnstown, PA, who received an MFA from Ohio University’s Photography and Integrated Media program. His work has been exhibited and published internationally. He also performs under the name Rural Carrier and is co-Founder of My Idea of Fun, an art and music archive that features over 300 releases including several of his photography books and audio cassettes.
Amelia Maslen presents a photographic series shot in Alaska while she was in residency at an organic vegetable farm and also at a reindeer farm just outside of Fairbanks. In 2014, she received a BFA in Photography with honors from the School of Art and Design in the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Her work has been exhibited both internationally (in Chile, England, and France) and nationally in New York and Ohio, as well as many online platforms such as Juxtapoz Magazine and Humble Arts Foundation New York. In 2015. Maslen has worked with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms and also served as staff photographer for Running Reindeer Ranch in Alaska.
Dale Rothenberg’s work explores the socioeconomic problems of suburban Ohio through its nighttime landscape. His photographs have been published in books and presented in galleries across the country. He studied Jazz Piano Performance and graduated from Oberlin Conservatory in 2013. While at Oberlin, his time was equally focused on studies in both the photography department and the music conservatory. In addition to his photographic practice, Rothenberg maintains an active jazz performance schedule.
