2731 Prospect Contemporary Art permanently closed on April 22, 2017
Dream: New Print Works is Endi Poskovic’s first solo exhibition at 2731 Prospect. Endi is an internationally acclaimed artist working in print media and is particularly well-known for his work in woodcut processes. He will be presenting laser-engraved, hand-printed ukiyo-e woodcuts that vividly comment on universal themes of displacement, memory, transformation and revival. His imagery contains hybridized and pixilated fragments of a robe, a rock, a ring, and a cross-shaped house. These images are situated within an indistinct setting that reveals no direct relation to a specific space or event. The dichotomy between the image and its ambiguous surroundings engages the viewer in an attempt to construct a connection through limited visual information. Additionally, there is evocative text placed in relationship to the image that is in both English and his native Slavic language.
Originally from Sarajevo, Endi Poskovic moved to the United States for his MFA degree in the early 1990’s. He has an extensive exhibition record including solo shows at the Philadelphia Print Center; Plains Art Museum; Bemis Center for Contemporary Art; Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium; the China Academy of Art in China and many international print biennials. His works are represented in numerous collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Fogg Art Museum at Harvard; Art Institute of Chicago; Royal Antwerp Museum of Fine Arts; and the National Taiwan Museum amongst others. He has been the recipient of grants and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation; the John D. Rockefeller Foundation; the Pollock-Krasner Foundation; and the J. William Fulbright Foundation.
Endi is based in Ann Arbor where he is a Professor at the University of Michigan, Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design and is also an Associate Faculty member at the university’s Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies.
