2731 Prospect Contemporary Art is announcing that the gallery will close permanently at the end of the current exhibition on April 22, 2017.
In September 2015, 2731 Prospect Contemporary Art opened in the former William Busta Gallery location on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland. The gallery has proudly featured work by emerging and established artists from throughout Ohio, in addition to California and New York. 2731 Prospect Contemporary Art has presented an imaginative combination of solo and group exhibitions in a range of media including photography, painting, drawing and sculpture. Gallery exhibitions have been accompanied by a popular series of artist’s talks and panel discussions.
Lauren Davies, 2731 Prospect’s Gallery Director, said, “There has been enthusiastic attendance at the gallery and we have received fantastic feedback for our shows, but sales have not been sufficient to support our ongoing exhibition schedule. It’s extremely disappointing to close the gallery, but it’s been a great opportunity to present the work of so many wonderful artists.”
Since 2015, 2731 Prospect Contemporary Art has presented a series of 21 exhibitions featuring a roster of accomplished artists including Guggenheim Fellows, Fulbright Fellows, recipients of the Cleveland Art Prize, CPAC grantees and numerous Ohio Arts Council awardees. Works by gallery artists are included in many national and international museum collections plus public and private collections around the country.
“I want to thank my family, John and Allyn Davies, for their support for the gallery. None of these exhibitions would have been possible without their generous financial backing. Also, I sincerely want to thank everyone who has purchased work from the gallery and therefore supported both our mission and the artists,” added Lauren Davies.
The current exhibition features three solo shows with works by Kristen Cliffel, Tony Ingrisano and Kristina Paabus. There is an Exhibition Closing Reception scheduled for Saturday, April 22 from 4:00-6:00 pm. This reception will serve as both a celebration of the exhibitions by Kristen, Tony and Kristina and also a farewell to 2731 Prospect Contemporary Art. We hope you will join us at the gallery on April 22.
